Required Question:
One of my recent pieces of work is the acrylic painting project I titled "Point Betsie". The main subject of the painting is Point Betsie which is a light house and in the background is the beautiful teal lake. My first impression when I see my piece of work is how well the water looks. The gradient effect from the top of the sky to the horizon I was really proud of. Then the blending of colors from the horizon of the water to the shore is another aspect of the painting that really sticks out to me. The colors that really stick out are the blues and the green in the water. A texture that I used and really liked was the way bush. I used the round brush and dabbed which created the leaf effect, then I used light and dark colors to create depth in the bush. In the picture of the light house the house looks very grey, so I decided to paint the light house a grey shade. Honestly, I really wish I hadn't done grey. I would've rather done the color that I know the house actually is. I also had a really hard time creating the texture of the house and roof through paint. If I were to be a first viewer of my painting the first thing I would notice is the shading is all off and the painting is not completely finished. I think that some signals about my bad technical choices would be the black lines I painted on the lighthouse, or how there is no depth in the windows. I really feel that my painting falls short in the whole light house in general. I'm really proud of the way the sky and ocean turned out, but the light house is super embarrassing and it falls short.
